AW17 TRENDS 101

It’s been a long, hot summer so it’s hard to imagine pulling out the flannelette jammies just yet but take a wander through your local shopping destination and fashion retailers' windows are well and truly giving us the cues to start thinking about hot chocolatey beverages, ditching the razor for sin-masking opaque tights and, of course, layering up in the wardrobe department. So, what’s on point for the Aussie woman’s winter wardrobe this year? Red

Shades of Red

Paint the town with THE colour of the season - from couture scarlet through to rust and barn door reds – choose a tone that will compliment your skin tone and hair colour and warm your cheeks on the coldest of days. Shoes, trousers, trench coats, scarves, berets, handbags & lip colour– if it’s red of any description, it’s red hot. Military

Military Jacket

Command attention in military style jackets with sharp, tailored cuts, braiding, epaulettes and gold metal button features. Generous busted ladies – be wary of the double-breasted variety as this will give breadth and boxiness to the area you don’t want it. Slight padding in the shoulders will give a don't-mess-with-me look and width to the shoulders to balance out a pear-shaped bod. Go black, army green or navy, trench length to the knee or mid-thigh or go AWOL and keep it short and sharp with a hip-bone or above hemline. IMAGE: Pinterest, Leather, Lace & Lurex

Leather not only looks hot but it retains warmth. Stylish and functional. It’s a must-have in any woman’s wardrobe. Opt for a well cut, shapely jacket (nothing boxy) or if you’re game, straight leg, skinny or track pant style leather trousers are smoking hot. Don’t be afraid to spend a little to get the right garment, after all it’s classic and will pay you back by keeping you looking sharp for eons! Leather Pants

Shimmery lurex has made a comeback, as featured on the runway by Chanel this season, particularly by way of dresses and jumpsuits. Midnight Blue Velvet

Nothing screams royal more than velvet, especially in a midnight blue hue. Dresses, tailored pants and beautifully cut blazers (to go with said pants if you’re courageous enough…go on, do it!). IMAGE: Pinterest Pleats Finger pleating continues to feature on the racks this season, namely the long line pleated skirt. Rock it in metallics (silver, pewter, rose or gold) or keep it balletic in pastels and nudes for a romantic, sweep-me-off-my-feet kind of vibe.. Bomber Jackets

Get your groove back with a funky little bomber jacket. Any fabric will do, but expect to see satin bomber jackets take flight. Team these with a casual pair of jeans with the odd rip or two and sneakers for street cred or a pencil skirt/tailored 7/8 length pant and heels for a fun evening look. IMAGE: www.boohoo.com
