SS16 Trends 101

Yessss! Spring/Summer 16 is finally underway for us southern hemisphericals! It's time to vacuum-pack the winter weight layers to make way for the cool, fresh and light. Yes, that includes the opaque tights, so it's time to dig out that razor again too, ladies!

If your wardrobe is looking a little tired or light on, where do you begin when attempting to complete your capsule wardrobe for the season of barbecues, parties and family get-togethers, the final terms of school drop-offs or even the office? Having just returned from Europe, I can confidently share what is hot property both in stores and on the streets - on the bodies of our northern hemisphere counterparts: Denims & Mediterranean Nautical Chic

SS16 Trends Mediterranean Blues

Blue of all shades is BIG. From pastel voiles through to inky denims, the colours of the Mediterranean skies and oceans are the it-colours. Mixed with white pieces (think cheesecloth skirts or classic white shorts and pants), this look is as fresh as it gets. Stripes and patterns in the hallowed hue, inspired by the ceramic tiles of European architectural history, are there for embrace. Team it with white canvas sneakers to keep it relaxed and casual or metallic sandals, heels and accessories in silver or gold for class. An injection of red will give a nod to the nautical, no yacht required! Shoulders (are the new legs!)

Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses (remember the peasant tops of the 90s?) is on trend. Imperative you have a good strapless bra to keep 'the girls' in line and sitting pretty and dust a little bronzing or shimmer powder over the shoulders and decolletage for added glow. Neutrals, Nudes and Pastels

Easy on the eye are 50 shades of white (glacier, vanilla, eggshell, ivory, cream), neutrals in blush, pale greys and fawns and everyone's favourite, champagne, plus subtle pastels in blues, pinks and lemons. They are aesthetically pleasing with metallic accents (shoes, cuffs, neck pieces and bags), especially in rose gold. Tribal & Navajo Inspired Jewellery & Sandals

Think fringing, pom poms, cord and leather in bright bold, saturated colours - a continuation of the boho chic look of the past that hasn't really left the scene. The perfect additional to a Camilla kaftan!

Luxe Glam

This is all about luxury and textures others will want to touch! Feathers, silk fringing, embellished laces, delustered satin and sequins (especially of the large, flat variety) - jackets, skirts, pants, dresses and, of course, accessories. If it's not normally your 'thing' keep it subtle and reach for the accessories to treat yourself to a little luxe glam. Sequins during the day too much? Not this season!
