5 Must Have Sizzling Aussie Summer Looks for SS17
Navigating your way through new season trends can be as appealing as shaving your shins with a cheese grater for many women, but here are a few ideas to get you moving in the right direction.
You wear what you eat: FRUIT & VEG PRINTS
Lemon, watermelon, apple, pineapple, tomato prints will have us salivating over fashion this season for more than one reason. The bolder the better, but keep accesories simple to let the garment do the talking. Basically, anything you want to throw into a summery punch or salad is in, but leave the Carmen Miranda headpiece at home. We don’t want to attract wildlife now, do we?
Get going in GINGHAM
Sweet and cool, gingham in any shade (red, navy, pastels and neutrals) will feature on the street this summer. Cute-as-a-button dresses, off-the-shoulder tops (yes they’re still in!) or tailored shorts, will have you looking on-trend for that Sunday picnic or daytime Christmas party. Add a tailored jacket and heels to your gingham shorts to take them into the evening.
Loosen up with WIDE LEG PANTS
The wide leg pant in neutral shades, bold florals or stripes are back. Wear with a wedge or heel to gain extra height if you want longer looking pins, but make sure the fabric is soft and fluid – think crepes, light rayon or floaty nylon. Extra points for a belted, high waist style worn with a tucked singlet or top.
Feel feminine with FRILLY, FLOATY FLORALS
Florals will always rear their pretty little heads in spring/summer, so it's natural we're seeing these instore again with loads of ruffles and frills to amp up the feminine factor. Pale based florals - with white or pastel backgrounds, as opposed to black or dark toned backgrounds - will keep the look cool. It’s a fabulous print to create your mix and match wardrobe, usually providing several colour options to draw out and match up with your bottoms or tops.
Party like it’s 1985 with STATEMENT SHOULDERS
Dynasty fans rejoice! The statement shoulder is back, particularly when it comes to glam night looks. Shoulder pads, embellished epaulettes, frills and ruffles - do it in a metallic and you’ll be rocking it with the best of them! It’s a perfect silhouette for pear-shaped women to gravitate towards to balance out hips and create a more hourglass shape, if desired.
When talking trends many women, particularly over the age of 40, think ‘but I don’t want to look like mutton dressed up as lamb’ - if you’re wearing your hemlines too short, plunging necklines or make-up too heavy for your features, you might not attract those self-esteem boosting compliments we all like to hear from time to time. It’s important not to lose your sense of fun with fashion and if you’re unsure, embracing new season trends doesn’t have to be a head to toe affair. A nod to the trend through accessories or a simple, singular garment in a cut that works for your body shape will have any onlooker admiring your sense of style and knack for fashion.
